Santo Claudio

Santo Claudio, age 74, of New Britain, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, October 12, 2023.  Santo was a life-long Hartford resident where he lived at Sheldon Street (Sheldon Oaks) and then Smith Towers.  He retired from Gardner's Nurseries, Rocky Hill, where he worked his entire working life. 
Santo was born in Caguas, PR, to Rumalda Diaz of Caguas, PR, and Eulogio Claudio of Caguas PR.  He is survived by his wife, Esther Claudio; three daughters: Mirna Claudio, Maleny Saylor, and Sintia Claudio; his son in-law Melvin Saylor Jr.; his Godson Luis Sanchez; his brother Angel Luis Valdes (Uuiso); his cousins: Pablo Diaz, Victoria (Vicky) Diaz, Ana Luz Diaz, Irene Diaz, and Lucy Diaz;  his sister in-laws: Aida Saez, Amalia Rios, and Maria Saez; his brother in-law Bernaldino Rios; his nine grandchildren: Shantavia Batchelor, Shaquanna Applewhite, Willie Thomas Jr., Dajah Coleman, Precious Coleman, Lianna Giles, Melvin Saylor III, and Mya Saylor; his six great-grandchildren Julius Kelly, Jayceon Crump, Elijah Foxworth, Xyaire Foxworth, Marquan Lee Jr., and Nolan Coleman; his nephews: Wesley Santiago and Jeffrey Saez; his nieces: Aileen Hogu and Erica Martinez-Saez; and several other cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Juan Valdes, grandson Tyrone Kelly, and nephew Angel Saez.
Viewing services will be held Friday, October 20 at DeLeon Funeral Home, 104 Main St., Hartford CT, 11:00-1:00.
Interment follows at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield.
