Richard "Ricky" Hernandez Jr.

Richard “Ricky” Hernandez Jr., a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and brother in-law, unexpectedly entered eternal rest with his heavenly Father and Creator on Thursday, June 1, 2023.  Ricky was born on December 4, 1959, in Caguas, Puerto Rico but was a lifelong resident of Tolland, CT.  He was the son of Julia Hernandez and the late Richard Hernandez.  Ricky loved his home visits and, we, the family enjoyed our Sunday visits with him.  Ricky enjoyed his mom’s home cooked meals and loved his coffee.  He also loved his potato chips.  He was a loving soul and will be truly missed.  Our love for Ricky will forever live in our hearts.  Ricky was born with birth defects and was faced with many challenges throughout his whole life, but we, the family were his voice and always made sure he was ok and getting good care.  He was under 24-hour care at a group home in Tolland, CT.  The staff there loved Ricky and we are grateful for the great care he received at his home.

Ricky is survived by four sisters:  Susy Colon, Rosa Perez, Carmen Julie Hernandez-Torres, and Nitza Nieves.  He was predeceased by one sister, Maria T. Torres.

Calling hours for Ricky will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 10:00am -1:00pm at DeLeon Funeral Home 104 Main Street Hartford, CT. , followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 453 Fairfield Ave. Hartford, CT.
