Josefina Oviedo

Josefina Oviedo, age 75, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, December 3, 2022. She was born April 4, 1947 in the city of Santiago, Dominican Republic and was the daughter of the late Gregorio Del Orbe and Hilaria Cuba.

Josefina was a loving and devoted mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and she embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Josefina made friends everywhere she went and her smile would light up any room.

Josefina is survived by her two children, her son Franny Oviedo, her daughter Alba-Mercedes Handzlik, her son- In-law Richard Handlik, her grandchildren Caroline Goodman, Victoria Goodman, Alexandra Garay, Justice Garay and Alexander Chance Garay, her great grandchildren Caleb Morrison, Logan Morrison and Autumn Morrison. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her eyes and she adored every single one of them. Josefina will be missed by everyone who loved and knew her, especially her grandchildren who adored their Nana.

The family wants to extend a special thanks to the Hartford Fire Department Engine 10 D tour, Hartford Hospital, and Atena ambulance for your strong efforts in helping her, and a thank you to everyone for all the love and support they have provided during this difficult time.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Saint Augustine Church at 10 am; 10 Campfield Avenue, Hartford, CT.  Everyone is asked to meet directly at church.  Burial will be held privately for family.
