Hernan "Herman" Hernandez-Rios

Hernán “Herman” Hernández-Ríos was a devoted husband, a caring father, a loving grandfather, a respected uncle, a considerate cousin, and a cherished brother, who peacefully passed away on July 21, 2022, at the age of 63.  

He was born to Clemencia Rios and Miguel A. Hernandez on May 19th, 1959, in Añasco, Puerto Rico.  A resident of East Hartford for 29 years, he was employed by Connecticut Transit in Hartford, Connecticut, for over 35 years. He enjoyed volunteering and serving in shelters, soup kitchens, and church events. He led youth groups in his church and assisted with weekend retreats. Herman had a serving heart for all those in need, especially his family. He could find humor in the most mundane situations and enjoyed joking with family members and friends.  He loved spending time with his family and attending car shows. 

He is survived by his wife Sonia Hernandez, his children, Xavier and Dalmarie Hernandez, his grandchildren, Jurilyz and Levi Hernandez, and siblings Lucy Fuentes-Santiago, Ramon Fuentes, Sergia Hernandez, Madeline Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Hernan Hernandez, Lucy and Miguel Hernandez.  He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. He joins his mother, Clemencia, in heaven and his brother and sister, Jose Roman and Rosa Henry.  His presence in this world will be missed, but heaven has gained an angel.  

A service celebrating Herman's life will be held at Crossroads Community Cathedral Church, 1492 Silver Ln., East Hartford, CT 06118, on Friday, July 29th. His viewing will be 10-11 am, and service will be 11-12, with burial proceeding after the service at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
