Carmen Matta-Melendez Obituary

Carmen Lydia Matta-Melendez, of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, passed away on December 31, 2021 in Hartford, CT at 83 years of age.  Carmen was born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico to Ventura Matta-Ayala and Marcelina Matta-Melendez on July 01, 1937. 

She was a certified registered nurse and worked in the Distrito Regional de Fajardo.  She lived a portion of her life in Hartford, CT and worked as a visiting nurse at Mt. Sinai Hospital.  She was married twice and divorced twice. 

Carmen lived a full and vibrant life.  She loved nature and animals, and loved to travel.  Carmen loved to dance and listen to all kinds of music.  She was well known for her delicious sabroso cooking.  Everyone knew her as "Mamita" and her family also knew her as "Lydia".  She was well loved by all who knew her.

Carmen is preceeded in death by her parents; her siblings: Jose Manuel Matta-Melendez, Joaqin (Manolin) Matta-Melendez, Carmen Luisa Matta-Matos, Josefina Matta (Kendrick); her children: Jose Alberto Jurado and Lydia Ester Otero; her grandchildren: Fabian Arroyo and Genesis Torres-Martinez.

Carmen is srvived by her children and spouses: Jose Manuel Jurado and Cherie Hope-Jurado, Jose Luis Jurado, Luzidalia Zanawich and Mark Zanawich, Carmen Nancy Concepcion, Aurora Mena-Torres, Hector Rivera Jr., Luis Daniel Martinez, and Alba Celeste Martinez-Cadena and Elvin Cadena.

Carmen is survived by her siblings: Elizabeth Edgerson, Olga Matta, Jose Joaquin Matta; a special niece and nephew: Gloria Matta and Jose (Papo) Matta.

She is survived by many grandchildren: Joseph Michael Jurado, Omar Jurado-Woelz, Ajai Jurado, Layla Jurado, Taisha Jurado, Jose Jurado, David Jurado, Ana Janirra Jurado, Jacqueline Jurado-Ramirez, Clarry Jamayra Jurado, Hipolito Colon, Bianca Ortiz and Bernice Jones, Lizette Otero, Lizvuc Otero, Ed Concepcion, Nancy concepcion, Stephan Mena, Jonathan Garigas, Nestor Hollos, Apithany Pringles, Abdiel Martinez, Jaysha Martines, Dayanira Torres-Martines, Oscar Torres-Martines Jr., Angel Cadena.  Carmen is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
